One of my new favorite movies is No Country for Old Men.
The best character in the film, and certainly the most memorable, is the hired assassin Anton Chigurh. He's a cold blooded killing machine with no remorse. Calculating, precise and exact Anton has no motive other than to finish the job he was assigned. Once he has your name and number there is no stopping him.
In many ways Anton Chigurh has a lot in common with student loans.
WHAT?
Give me a chance.
Before we go any further I want the record to show that I, in no way, view student loans as some sort of cold heartless killing machine devoid of any soul and whose only intent is to bring you down.
However, dealing with a defaulted student loan can sure feel that way!!
Defaulting on your student loan is one of the worst things you can do to your credit and to yourself. If you are not convinced I urge you to read our article on Student Loan Default.
If you default it can be very difficult to get the loan back in good standing. There are options, but like our friend Anton, there is little to no room for negotiation. Mr. Chigurh demands full payment for any debt owed to him and likewise you'll be expected to pay your loan back in full, along with collection fees added to your outstanding balance.
So don't default. I can't say it enough.
I mean do you really want this guy after you?
Oh and like the movie, hitting your defaulted student loan with a car wont help!!
Have you defaulted or know someone who has defaulted on their student loan?
